In a concerted effort to bolster the digital capabilities of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), Vietnam, along with other APEC member economies, is focusing on enhancing cooperation in digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to significantly boost productivity and competitiveness among these businesses. During a recent APEC workshop held in Hanoi, Vietnamese officials emphasized the critical role of technology transfer, the development of digital skills, and fostering innovation to support MSMEs.
The workshop served as a platform for representatives from APEC economies, international organizations, and leading technology companies to engage in discussions about AI adoption, digital infrastructure, access to finance, and strategies to bridge the digital divide. Such dialogue is pivotal in formulating strategies that can effectively integrate AI technologies within the business operations of smaller enterprises, enhancing their market resilience and global competitiveness.
This event is also aligned with Vietnam’s strategic preparations for hosting APEC in 2027. As part of this long-term plan, participants are expected to formulate policy recommendations that not only advocate for responsible AI usage but also aim to fortify regional digital economic collaboration. These recommendations are intended to provide a framework for sustainable digital growth across the APEC region, ensuring that all member economies can benefit from technological advancements.
The discussions at the workshop highlighted the necessity of a collaborative approach to address the existing challenges facing MSMEs in the digital landscape. By focusing on closing the digital divide, the participating members aim to create a more inclusive environment where businesses, regardless of size, can leverage digital tools and innovations effectively. The emphasis on access to finance and digital infrastructure underscores the commitment to equip MSMEs with the resources needed to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.
