In a significant legislative event, Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly is convening its first extraordinary session from August 3 to August 24 in Hanoi. Lawmakers are set to tackle an extensive legislative agenda that includes deliberations on a host of national projects and legislative proposals. This session marks a pivotal moment as it aims to address key areas of national interest and development.
The assembly’s agenda is packed with 33 items, highlighting the passage of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. Additionally, lawmakers will conduct first readings of seven more bills. The proposed legislation spans multiple sectors, including but not limited to petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense. This comprehensive approach underscores the assembly’s commitment to addressing diverse and critical issues facing the nation.
Beyond legislative matters, the session will also focus on reviewing major infrastructure and development projects. These include strategic initiatives like the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5 and adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project. Another significant topic on the agenda is the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project. Consideration will also be given to the establishment of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh as cities, reflecting a broader vision for urban development and expansion.
Furthermore, lawmakers will discuss special policy mechanisms that aim to foster renewable energy, in preparation for the APEC 2027 projects, and guide the nation’s digital transformation efforts. These discussions are crucial as they set the stage for Vietnam’s future economic and technological landscape, aligning with global trends and national ambitions.
