Thailand is making strides in enhancing its global aviation links by forming strategic partnerships with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, alongside modernizing its regional airport infrastructure to bolster connectivity and support the tourism sector. These efforts are aimed at accommodating the increasing travel demands and improving accessibility to the country’s diverse regions.
In a move to capture the growing travel market, Vietnam Airlines initiated a new route between Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket on July 2. This service operates four times a week and offers an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. The introduction of this route is a response to the rising number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Thailand, which exceeded 300,000 in the first half of the year alone.
Simultaneously, flydubai has enhanced its connectivity with Thailand by launching daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting July 1. The airline plans to further increase this service to twice daily from September 15, significantly boosting the travel options between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand and strengthening the ties between the two regions.
On the domestic front, Thailand is preparing to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This initiative is expected to enhance air traffic management, improve operational efficiency, and increase access to secondary cities, thereby promoting regional tourism and economic growth. The AFIS is scheduled to be introduced at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential plans for wider deployment across other regional airports in the future.
These developments underscore Thailand’s commitment to expanding its aviation network and improving infrastructure, positioning the country as a key player in the Southeast Asian travel market. By forging international partnerships and upgrading its aviation systems, Thailand aims to cater to the increasing influx of tourists while fostering economic development through enhanced connectivity.
