Bangkok has been declared a disaster-affected area following days of relentless rainfall, which has resulted in extensive flooding and severe disruptions across the city. The decision, impacting all 50 districts, enables authorities to implement emergency measures to address the situation and aid affected residents.
The declaration allows for accelerated drainage operations, the establishment of temporary shelters, and the identification of vulnerable populations, including bedridden patients. Authorities are also tasked with assessing damage to both public and private property to facilitate compensation and support efforts for impacted communities.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has instructed relevant agencies to ensure rapid coordination of emergency measures and the swift delivery of assistance to those in need. His directives aim to mitigate the adverse effects of nearly 300 millimeters of rainfall recorded in the city since Thursday, which has led to significant waterlogging and flooding on many roads.
The heavy rains have not only caused logistical challenges but have also raised concerns about the safety and well-being of Bangkok’s residents. Local authorities are focused on providing necessary resources and support to minimize the disruption and facilitate a return to normalcy as swiftly as possible.
