In a bid to bolster Vietnam’s economic prospects, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng has reached out to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) for enhanced collaboration. During discussions held in Switzerland, Thắng emphasized the importance of these international bodies in supporting Vietnam’s trade, investment, and long-term economic strategies.
Thắng underscored Vietnam’s unwavering dedication to a rules-based global trading system, urging the WTO to expedite necessary reforms. He called for the restoration of its dispute settlement mechanism and a broadened focus on modern challenges including digital trade, artificial intelligence, climate change, and supply chain resilience. These areas, he noted, are crucial for adapting to the evolving global economic landscape.
Highlighting Vietnam’s ambition to achieve high-income economy status by 2045, Thắng invited the WEF to enhance its partnership with Vietnam. He advocated for increased investment, innovation, and the establishment of international financial centers through public-private partnerships. Such initiatives, he suggested, would significantly contribute to Vietnam’s economic transformation and global integration.
In response, officials from the WTO and WEF expressed their support for Vietnam’s economic reform agenda. They pledged to continue their cooperation in areas of trade, investment, and capacity-building, recognizing Vietnam’s progress and potential as a growing economic power. Their commitment signals a positive outlook for Vietnam’s future endeavors on the international stage.
