Vietnam and Lithuania are exploring avenues to enhance their bilateral cooperation, as reflected in a meeting between Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys in Hanoi. The discussions focused on strengthening ties across several sectors, including trade, investment, the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, science, and technology. Both leaders underscored the significant potential for collaboration in these areas, aiming to deepen the economic and strategic partnership between the two nations.
Vietnam took the opportunity to encourage Lithuania to advocate for the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) by EU member states that have yet to endorse it. Additionally, Vietnam sought Lithuania’s support in addressing the European Commission’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood exports, which has been a barrier to smoother trade relations. In response, Lithuania expressed its strong commitment to bolstering Vietnam-EU relations and announced plans to send a business delegation to Vietnam. This delegation aims to explore new investment opportunities, highlighting Lithuania’s proactive approach to expanding economic ties.
The conversation between the two countries also touched on international cooperation. Both Vietnam and Lithuania agreed to enhance their collaborative efforts at the United Nations, demonstrating a shared commitment to global governance. They also expressed a mutual interest in strengthening ASEAN-EU relations, recognizing the importance of regional partnerships in addressing global challenges. In line with international law, both nations voiced their support for peace, stability, and freedom of navigation, emphasizing the need for cooperative efforts to maintain these principles.
These developments mark an important step forward in the Vietnam-Lithuania relationship, with both countries seeking to leverage their strengths for mutual benefit. By focusing on key sectors and international cooperation, Vietnam and Lithuania are paving the way for a more robust partnership. The discussions in Hanoi reflect a strategic vision to enhance bilateral ties and contribute positively to regional and global agendas.
