Vietnam and Canada have solidified their commitment to deepening bilateral ties by adopting an Action Plan to implement their Strategic Partnership. The plan, agreed upon during discussions in Ottawa between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, outlines specific areas for enhanced cooperation.
The Action Plan aims to transform the commitments made by the leaders of both countries into tangible programs and projects. It spans a variety of sectors, including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
In their talks, the ministers agreed to regularly review and update the plan to ensure its effective implementation. They emphasized the importance of stronger coordination among government agencies, local authorities, and businesses in achieving the objectives set forth in the plan.
Additionally, Vietnam and Canada have committed to enhancing existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and exploring new strategic dialogue frameworks. During the discussions, both sides also addressed regional and international issues, agreeing to bolster cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC.
Looking to future collaborations, Vietnam and Canada will support each other in hosting APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029, respectively. Vietnam further expressed its support for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening multilateral relations.
