Vietnam is actively pursuing enhanced trade and investment ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, aiming to broaden market access and strengthen economic collaborations. Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân has advocated for leveraging the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to boost trade and investment between the two parties. In her engagements, she suggested potential upgrades to the agreement and called on the EAEU to address trade obstacles affecting Vietnamese exports, particularly in textiles, footwear, and rice.
Both parties emphasized the need for improved coordination of trade data, the acceleration of joint committee meetings, and the increased use of electronic certificates of origin. EAEU representatives noted that bilateral trade has almost doubled, pointing to further opportunities for growth in these economic exchanges.
In a separate dialogue with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, Vice President Xuân advocated for enhanced high-level exchanges and a deeper economic partnership between Vietnam and Egypt. She underscored the importance of moving toward a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement, identifying key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as areas ripe for expanded cooperation.
The discussions took place in Bishkek during Vietnam’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. These efforts reflect Hanoi’s broader strategy to fortify economic and diplomatic relations with regional partners, aligning with its goals to establish stronger international economic ties.
