Vietnam and Denmark have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signaling a commitment to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, technology, and sustainable development. The announcement came during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
This new partnership builds on their previous Comprehensive Partnership from 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership initiated in 2023. Both countries have agreed to expand political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, with a strong focus on economic collaboration in renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, and other key sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport.
Vietnam and Denmark aim to boost business investment, fortify supply chains, and improve market access through existing trade agreements. A significant part of their cooperation will center on climate action, energy efficiency, and the development of renewable energy projects, aligning with Vietnam’s objective to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership also covers maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health.
Reaffirming their commitment to international law, both countries support multilateral cooperation and peaceful dispute resolution. They also expressed their backing for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and enhanced cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
To ensure the partnership’s success, both governments will craft action plans to transform their commitments into practical cooperation. This comprehensive framework sets a robust foundation for future collaboration between Vietnam and Denmark, fostering shared progress in various sectors.
