In a significant move to combat counterfeit goods and bolster intellectual property protection, Thailand is set to destroy over 2 million items seized in intellectual property infringement cases. This year, authorities will dispose of 2.08 million confiscated goods, marking a substantial increase of 36.45% from the 1.52 million items destroyed in 2025. The estimated value of these goods now stands at THB2.14 billion, a notable rise from last year’s THB900.91 million.
The wide array of counterfeit products slated for destruction includes clothing, watches, bags, electronic equipment, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, food and beverages, along with other consumer goods. These items were seized during enforcement operations targeting both online and offline markets, reflecting the comprehensive efforts of Thai authorities to curb the spread of counterfeit products.
The destruction process will take place at facilities equipped with environmental management systems located in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This ensures that the disposal is conducted safely, preventing any harm to the surrounding communities and minimizing environmental impact.
Despite these efforts, Thailand remains on the Watch List under the 2026 Special 301 Report, which evaluates global intellectual property protection and enforcement. To address these concerns, Thai authorities are advancing an intellectual property work plan in collaboration with the United States. This initiative focuses on strengthening enforcement measures, reducing counterfeit sales, protecting consumers, and fostering a more transparent business environment.
