In a recent high-profile meeting in Hanoi, leaders from Vietnam and Japan have renewed their commitment to enhancing collaboration between their respective ruling parties and legislative bodies. The discussions took place between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Both parties expressed optimism about the strengthening Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and pledged to advance political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges. This follows Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year, which set the stage for deeper bilateral ties.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc emphasized Vietnam’s robust economic growth and ongoing administrative reforms as a foundation for further cooperation. He proposed that Japan could contribute significantly by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, a move that would aid Vietnam’s institutional development. Additionally, Ngọc called for expanded collaboration in several cutting-edge areas, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology.
The Vietnamese side particularly highlighted the importance of fostering connections between the countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and encouraged greater interaction among young lawmakers. Additionally, they sought continued support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan and suggested simplifying visa processes with the long-term goal of establishing visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens.
In response, Hagiuda expressed Japan’s willingness to expand bilateral cooperation, underscoring the Liberal Democratic Party’s commitment to promoting exchanges and joint initiatives. He highlighted potential areas of collaboration, such as advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy, as pivotal fields where both nations could benefit from shared efforts and innovation.
