This call to action aims to enhance the country’s participation in global disaster relief operations and comes in the wake of Vietnam’s recent humanitarian mission to Venezuela.
Addressing a ceremony that celebrated the Vietnamese rescue team’s commendable work following twin earthquakes in Venezuela, the Prime Minister expressed admiration for the 124-member team comprising military and public security personnel. Their mission was marked by substantial achievements, including the recovery of 57 victims and the delivery of 5.6 tonnes of essential relief supplies. Additionally, they provided medical assistance to over 130 local residents and contributed financial aid to communities impacted by the disaster.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng emphasized the importance of enhancing Vietnam’s rescue capabilities. He outlined a comprehensive strategy that includes acquiring modern equipment, providing specialized training, and improving coordination among various agencies. He also highlighted the necessity of forging stronger international partnerships to boost the effectiveness of future humanitarian missions.
The Prime Minister also underscored the need for better support systems and recognition for the personnel who engage in overseas humanitarian missions. Their dedication and professionalism were distinctly acknowledged through the awarding of Venezuela’s Hero of Venezuela Medal to the Vietnamese rescue delegation, honoring their significant contributions during the crisis.
This initiative reflects Vietnam’s commitment to playing a more proactive role in international disaster relief and underscores the country’s dedication to humanitarian causes worldwide. The formation of a rapid response search and rescue team is poised to enhance Vietnam’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to global emergencies, further solidifying its reputation in international humanitarian efforts.
