Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President, Tô Lâm, has urged Hà Nội’s leadership to accelerate economic growth while maintaining sustainable development. In a recent dialogue with city officials, he emphasized the importance of enhancing governance and improving the quality of life for the city’s residents.
Tô Lâm acknowledged Hà Nội’s advancements in areas such as institutional reforms, infrastructure development, and administrative efficiency. However, he also pointed out existing challenges, including growth that has not met expectations, untapped resources, and delays in significant urban projects. These issues, he noted, need to be addressed for the city to realize its full potential.
To overcome these hurdles, Tô Lâm called on local authorities to mobilize idle resources, expedite crucial infrastructure projects, and bolster support for businesses, tourism, and innovation. Additionally, he highlighted the need for improving public services, with a focus on reducing traffic congestion, combating pollution, expanding housing, and investing in education, healthcare, and digital transformation.
Hà Nội has set ambitious goals for the coming years, aiming for an 11% growth in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This follows a commendable 8.22% economic growth recorded in the first half of the year, which surpassed the national average. Such targets, if met, would significantly enhance the city’s economic landscape and overall livability.
