As Việt Nam and Singapore continue to bolster their political trust, both nations are set to enhance strategic coordination in areas such as technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường has highlighted that the bilateral relationship has extended beyond traditional economic cooperation, focusing on sectors that are pivotal for future growth and ASEAN regional integration.
The two countries elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, signifying strengthened political trust and mutual strategic interests. Singapore remains a key economic ally for Việt Nam, ranking as its second-largest foreign investor with numerous projects in sectors like manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A notable example of their collaboration is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is now advancing towards more sustainable and smarter industrial models.
Efforts to enhance cooperation extend into fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Both nations are working to connect their innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent pools. Economic cooperation will be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, with particular focus on finance, trade, supply chain enhancement, and technological development.
Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are anticipated to forge stronger ties between governments, academic institutions, research bodies, and private enterprises in areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is also poised to support the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam.
A key highlight of Tô Lâm’s visit will be his keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a prominent regional security forum. Vietnamese officials perceive this invitation as a validation of Việt Nam’s expanding international influence and its steadfast commitment to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
