Vietnam has reiterated its commitment to aiding Myanmar through the framework of ASEAN, underscoring the importance of the Five-Point Consensus as a crucial mechanism for achieving peace and stability in the country. At a recent informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Myanmar’s significance within ASEAN and affirmed Vietnam’s support for initiatives aimed at fostering national reconciliation, economic recovery, and enhanced governance.
Minister Lê Hoài Trung advocated for ASEAN to undertake more practical and tangible actions, including maintaining regular dialogues and direct engagement with Myanmar. Such measures are deemed essential for effectively monitoring developments and encouraging substantial progress within the nation. Furthermore, Vietnam expressed its intention to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to address Myanmar’s social challenges, combat transnational crime, and bolster regional cooperation.
