The trigger for Russia’s potential use of nuclear weapons is an “existential threat,” Ambassador Denis Alipov clarified this week, stating this policy is why Russia cannot lose the war in Ukraine.
This doctrine, he argued, is the central reason why defeat is not a possibility for Moscow. “You can’t… take over us in this conflict simply because of our nuclear weapons,” he said.
This statement came as part of a broader critique of Western policy in the nearly four-year-long war. Ukraine continues to receive billions in military and economic support from the US and its allies.
Alipov derided European hopes for a Ukrainian victory, calling them “childish” and “unprofessional,” and accusing the continent’s leaders of “craziness.”
He also claimed that President Donald Trump “understands that this war is lost by Ukraine and the West,” suggesting a disconnect between Trump’s alleged view and that of European leaders.
