Caretaker Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has signed an order to extend the mandate of the Special Operations Centre for Thai-Cambodian Border Situations Management (SOC-TCBSM), ensuring continuity in overseeing security along the Thai-Cambodian border.
The 27-member centre will be led by a deputy defence minister, supported by deputy directors including the secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC), the permanent secretary for foreign affairs, and the permanent secretary for the interior. Senior defence officials, armed forces commanders, and representatives from key government agencies will also participate.
The SOC-TCBSM is tasked with monitoring and assessing developments along the border, analysing risks, recommending measures to the NSC, the prime minister, or the cabinet, and coordinating cross-agency responses. It will also serve as the main channel for providing official updates to the public. The centre has authority to form sub-committees and assign working groups for specific tasks.
The directive underscores the importance of peaceful resolution with Cambodia, guided by sovereignty, equality, and respect for national identity. Cooperation is to remain strictly bilateral, free from third-party influence. The NSC Office will act as the secretariat, providing administrative, academic, and communication support.
